I lay awake staring at Red. She had finally fallen asleep in my arms. If her eyes hadn't been red-rimmed from crying, I would be smiling like a fool. But she had been crying, and I finally knew why.

I can’t believe she didn't tell me sooner how Wilson had treated her. How could he say those things? How could anyone say those things about her? I wasn't lying when I said I intended to erase every single memory she had of that fucker and replace it with one of my own. I’m not good enough for her, but I can make her see that she's too good for Wilson. I can make her see all of that, and I will.

Her face was peaceful in sleep. I just hoped that when she woke up, she wouldn't change her mind. If she had just told me about Wilson, I could have fixed it. I could have done something. I should have noticed that something was wrong. I should have known she wasn't happy. I was too busy being angry that she was with him to actually pay attention to her.

I stared up at the ceiling. I couldn't rush her, but I can fix this. If only she’ll let me.
